Nai Chung International School

Redefining the traditional campus with elevated "tree house" learning spaces designed to spark curiosity, social interaction, and environmental sustainability.
The Nai Chung International School has a comprehensive and thoughtfully crafted brief to accommodate three distinct sessions of school years: the kindergarten, the primary school segment, and the secondary school years. This well-structured educational institution is designed to support a total number of students exceeding 800 students, thereby ensuring a robust and enriching learning environment for each age group. The project brief reflects a commitment to providing quality education that meets the diverse needs of its student body.
The design concepts have drawn inspiration from the innovative idea of pre-fabrication to ensure cost effectiveness while maintaining quality. Additionally, it embraces the concept of tree houses, featuring multi-level connections that significantly enhance visual connections and encourage a far better teaching and learning experience. The classrooms are elevated above ground, which not only creates a unique and inviting covered outdoor activities area but also facilitates effective ground-level circulation and connection. This design approach aims to challenge the conventional pedagogy associated with traditional classroom arrangements by dispersing each volume to create dynamic pocket spaces that promote the sharing of ideas, knowledge, and social interactivity among students. The design places a strong emphasis on environmental and cultural sustainability, with all flat roof surfaces designated for the installation of solar panels to ensure minimal reliance on gridded energy resources.Nai Chung, Hong Kong
