A dynamic faceted sculptural facade formed by vertical blocks with setbacks and tilted planes.
Artisan Lab is a 22-storey industrial building in San Po Kong, Hong Kong, designed for small creative businesses. It provides 11,175 m² of floor area. The building is a dynamic faceted form with 4 vertical blocks with subtle setbacks & tilted facade planes facing various orientations, Services are from the rear laneway. The core is placed on the side to maximise usable internal space.
The area was once a manufacturing hub in Hong Kong. As the industries declined, the area transformed into a creative and light industrial zone. It aims to redevelop the site into a building that respects the area's industrial past & cater small creative businesses. The challenge was to avoid a typical building block. The mass is divided into 4 vertical volumes with setbacks & tilted facade planes. This creates a dynamic faceted form that breaks monotony & responds to various angles. Column-free floors were prioritised for flexibility collaboration. Services were placed at the rear, with the core positioned on the building's side to maximise usable space. A living green wall adds a natural touch to the industrial vibe. The project bridges the manufacturing past with its creative future.
