Originating in ancient Chinese philosophy, Yin and Yang represents the fundamental concept of opposite cosmic principles or forces that continuously interact, interconnect, and perpetuate each other in an endless cycle. Yin and Yang can be understood as complementary yet simultaneously opposing forces that together form a dynamic, balanced system in which the entirety is greater than the mere sum of its assembled parts, and where each part is essential for maintaining the cohesion and harmony of the whole. In traditional Chinese cosmology, the universe is believed to create itself out of an initial state of primary chaos composed of primordial qi, or material energy, which is then organized into the alternating cycles of yin and yang.
This force and motion give rise to all form and matter. The principle of “yin” is characterized by qualities that are retractive, passive, contractive, and receptive in nature, whereas “yang” manifests as repelling, active, expansive, and repulsive. This fundamental dichotomy, expressed through these contrasting characteristics, is observable in all phenomena in nature and underlies their patterns of continuous change, difference, and transformation.
The idea of Ying and Yang has been the primary design inspiration for this project, reflecting a timeless philosophy of balance and harmony.
With a strong focus on simplicity and elegance, two circles are intelligently joined by a clean, precise horizontal line. One end of the circle features a pivotal shaft that effectively operates the door mechanism, while the other end is designed as an empty circular ring that adds visual lightness. In this configuration, the horizontal bar seamlessly transforms into a fully functional handle, embodying a harmonious balance between utilization and beauty, where forms and function coexist in harmony.
