The Development of the New Corniche & Peninsula

  • The design strategy for the New Corniche is to provide a proposal, which is of low density but rich in charm and character. The new Corniche links to Casablanca's most significant landmark - the Great Mosque of King Hassan II. This development is an opportunity to bring people to this part of Casablanca in a way that is both contemporary and respectful of this Grand Mosque.The aim is to create a new urban precinct containing restaurants and shops at promenade level with villas in landscaped settings on the platform above. This development will be realized in a style, which is symbolic of traditional Moroccan architecture. General public piazza areas serve as nodes linking the Corniche to the Grand Mosque and at the other end, the Peninsula development. Two other dramatic civic space area located along the Corniche and provide further opportunities for Casablancans. Fire lanterns and an offshort waterspout will further enrich the experience of being at the New Corniche.
